You can share music on Facebook?
Indeed, Facebook has been building up a library of music for a while now, with a view of their users being able to add music to their content. Users can currently do this on Instagram Stories, and more recently, Facebook or Messenger stories.
Just recently, I’ve been able to add music I like to my Facebook Profile. Yes, just like Myspace!
This is huge, as sharing music on Facebook can be quite difficult. Links generally don’t work well there, its high-friction for the user (not wanting to leave the app and wait for a link to open), and Facebook doesn’t give them much reach. However, Facebook is too big to not share music on, so we often have to be creative about it.
How to get your music on Facebook
You simply have to opt-in for Facebook monetisation via your distributor. Below are some links to the relevant articles from some major distributors including CDBaby and Tunecore. If you are still considering different service providers, this should be a deal-breaker for you.
A sign of things to come
Personally, I think this is just the beginning. This will surely become more of a thing as Facebook becomes more of a content play in the areas of video and music. Getting your music natively onto the platform is a must. And your marketing efforts should reflect that also.
