Bandcamp alternatives to consider in 2025

Bandcamp alternatives to consider in 2025

Here we provide a set of alternatives platforms for musicians and fans to consider going into 2025 and beyond. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but our research has arrived at the ones most promising, active, and relevant.

The sites listed here very much focus on music commerce as opposed to streaming. This is why they are best positioned as Bandcamp alternatives as opposed to Spotify or Apple Music.

Ampwall

This is a relatively new platform developed my Chris Grigg and co.

The model is different to Bandcamp. Fans can sign up for free and buy music from the store. Artists pay a small fee of $10 per year for up to 5 hours of uploads.

The idea is that they can focus on providing artists the tools to DIY and that they don’t have to be biased to who or what is selling on the platform.

Another difference in their model is the structure of the business. They operate as a public benefit company with a view of mitigating outside pressure.

Features-wise, they offer artist and release pages, and much of what Bandcamp offers in terms of uploads and music playback.

Subvert

This is a platform very much in development but their mission is quite clear and detailed. They are very much positioning themselves as a like-for-like replacement for Bandcamp with the focus on their business structure being a co-operative. They are unapologetic about being a direct alternative as they address the concerns raised by Bandcamp changing hands more than once in the last few years.

E-Commerce / Own Website

This will always be an alternative and a good one when artists have the means to invest in it. There are plenty of tools out there for musicians to set up and run owned e-commerce sites including Squarespace, Shopify, WordPress + Woocommerce, Bandzoogle and others.

This won’t necessarily open up any discoverability, aside from potential SEO gains. But one’s own shop is at least a good fallback. Especially if you have a direct connection to your fans via email or SMS.

Songcards

Full disclosure. We have an interest in listing the following platform as it’s a sister company to Unlock Your Sound.

Songcards is not a like-for-like alternative to Bandcamp, but it offers a way to create and sell digital music products. The focus is on collecting, instant checkout, and offering bonus material.

Example Songcard Listing

Songcards is a platform but also a format, that being the concept of a songcard. A Songcard is a digital collectable featuring a song, a piece of artwork, and any bonus material the artist chooses to include.

Fans can buy songcards instantly without having to create an account. The songcard gets delivered directly to the fans inbox with means to download and explore what’s included.

Conclusion

This is by no means an exhaustive list and the platforms should all be considered quite young and in development. We’re more than happy to consider additions to this list as we believe that alternatives not only to Bandcamp, but all means of buying and selling music is a good thing to have.

If you work at any of the aforementioned platforms and would like to provide clarity or any input into the details provided, please don’t hesitate to reach us at chris [at] unlockyoursound.com
